If the fire attack can be set outside, without relying on the inside, set it when the time is right. If the fire is set upwind, do not attack downwind. If it is windy all during the day, the wind will stop at night. The army must know the five changes of fire, to be able to calculate the appropriate days.

This type of offensive scenario is based on being observative and understanding the proper timing.
Once the scenario is in motion, it is important to know the appro. move. |

This is true with any type of weapon. But to use the example of fire, setting it upwind from your position will only force you to fight the fire as well. You must understand the nature of the fire in order to control it well. Fire is not an easy tool to master. Ask any firefighter.

Observe the cyclical changes under the conditions of heaven, earth and man before implementing the "fire" attack upon the pre-aimed target.

Sun Tzu said, "If the fire attack can be set outside, without relying on the inside, set it when the time is right. If the fire is set upwind, do not attack downwind. The general must use heaven as his ally and incorporate his weaponry to join the forces of heaven as a "Force Multiplier". |

When we have complete knowledge of ourselves, our opponnent, and our connected battleground position then it is simpler to choose the right "tool" for the job.
If in addition we have complete knowledge of fire and it's uses. It can become a mutiplier in terms of strenghthing our response. Logic would only follow that we would use a tool or a weapon that we have a complete understanding of. Pawn 12 |

I don't know much about 5 changes of fire, but when using a weapon or method that is subject to socio-environental manipulation, it is best to research until you can limit the chaos factor to a manageable level.
