"...One who knows how to unite upper and lower ranks in purpose will be victorious..."-Sun-tzu.

Unification is most important during warfare. An army which is divided cannot experience its full strength. Only an army that is one, and in accord with each other, can do that. Thus, every one of the army, small units to big ones, high ranks to low ranks, strong or weak, they must be in accord with each other in order to be commanded and win.

Being of one mind when one goes into battle or into an important meeting, ensures that the team collectively strives towards achieving the same goal.

Moreover, possessing a unity of mind and effort breeds self-confidence among the troops and this enobles them to take calculated risks knowing that they are doing so for the benefit of their team.

When the upper and lower ranks are united in mind and spirit, their esprit de corps is higher and their spirit or ki', is far stronger.

In any organization, it is important for the strategic leader to unite the rank and file into believing his vision of victory.

You must unite all of your forces, but high and low, before they will become an effective fighting force.

Sun Tzu said, "One who knows how to unite upper and lower ranks in purpose will be victorious;"

A chain is as strong as its weakest link and if the links are separated then there is no chain. Cohesion is a major factor for any organization.

Group of people will always be stronger then the same number of people undertaking individual efforts. People should be organized around common values, goals and ways of doing things.

The third factor. An army where the soldiers, upper officers, and lower officers don't get along and won't fight as a team is doomed. No one part is more important than another and all need to function smoothly together or the army will not fight effectively, if it can fight at all. A chain is only as strong as it's weakest link and is absolutely useless if none of the links are connected.

Good organizations can have the unit producing workers and managers on the same page. When goals are collectively shared progress is possible. Victory of the group is dependant upon victory of the individual over desires pertinant to his or her individual needs.

The leader needs to share its vision to the troups. When everybody feel involve towards a common goal, their action and reaction will be synchronous. Like ants working not for themselves but for a common cause. It reminds me this SEAL saying "There is no 'I' in TEAM".

"One whose upper and lower ranks have the same desires will be victorious."

The officers and men must have the same goals, they must work together to attain that goal. If one group has an agenda that does not work in conjunction with the other and they do not have a common goal. Failure will be the only outcome. Blame will be the only result.

Obviously everyone pulling on the rope at the same time increases our chances for victory. The question becomes how to motivate everyone to do so. I believe that once the strategy has been effectively communicated to all involved and they understand the mission and see clearly the method for acheiving success, in most cases, both upper and lower ranks will fall in line with team unity.

What caused the decline of the British empire in the 1900's. Most likely it can be attributed to their failure of the class distinction amongst the citizens. I wonder if this can be taken to mean that the more our country builds up into a wealth superpower with more upperclass then lower, the more our country will detiriorate.

To sum this quote up, the general that can make everyone work together is the one that you want to keep.
