10.013 If the general is weak and not disciplined...

If the general is weak and not disciplined, his instructions not clear, the officers and troops lack discipline and their formation in disarray, this is called chaos.

If a commander (principal strategist) lead with words not with actions. His organization will follow his actions and not his words. In turbulent times, a wise leader can only provide effective leadership by acting on his words.

I have worked for many software and dot com companies. And I can tell you how a lot of those companies failed. 90% of the time, it is because of poor marketing focus and leadership.

A weak leader will ALWAYS result in chaos. A leader that has no idea about what s/he is doing is no leader at all. Just the same as a leader that is unclear about what his intentions are.

The Supreme Strategist General (SSG) is mentally strong and disciplined. His instructions are clear and focused. The army possessed the same iron discipline like their commander.
The disposition of his army is never in disarray. No chaos from start to finish

Sun Tzu said, "If the general is weak and not disciplined, his instructions not clear, the officers and troops lack discipline and their formation in disarray, this is called chaos."

The general knows that if he loses his integrity that the army will too!

I feel that this quote is trying to get at some of the personal characteristic of a leader that can make him successful. I would think that a leader would need to have a clear head and some quietness about him. A good leader would need to identify key battles and win those key conflicts first. A good leader would need to have a working plan and specific goals. An ability to flow with the punches would be an added requisite.

Most importantly I believe that the leader would need to first be togther within himself. This in itself would attract the right people to help in the accomplishment of desired objectives.

Generally subordinates want leadership. Almost above all else people want a perspicasious leader. They want to know that there is a plan in place and that it will be followed through to fruition.

This quality leadership is not possible without a keen mind, organized manner, high degree of articulation and acute hiring practices (employ only those whom you feel demonstrate a disciplined mindset).
