If I know the troops can attack, but do not know the enemy cannot attack, my victory is half.

Foreknowledge on the opposition is important to have before planning an attack on them.

Foreknowledge is the first stage of preparation. "Failure to prepare is to prepare for failure"

Knowing what your opponent is capable of is just as important as a tactical victory.

Good information from his/her spies allows the Supreme Strategist General (SSG) the advantage that he/she needs for a good tactical win.

Sun Tzu said, "If I know the troops can attack, but do not know the enemy cannot attack, my victory is half."

The general must calculate the opposition's disposition. If she can't do this then she will not know the consequences of the battle and will not be able to act pro-actively.

If I know my opposition is not in a position to fight then I can realize that I am in a better position to press and win.

If our eyes and mindset are limited to our own capabilities our chances for victory are diminished. Remember there are battles we should not fight. How is one to know which battles those are without the proper understanding of one's opponent. We must know if we have the capability to defeat our enemy.
