The ruler may not move his army out of anger; the general may not do battle out of wrath.

A Ruler (CEO) should never compete out of emotion. While the General should not attack out of anger. It is important that one moves the army when there are advantages to be gained; be still when there are no advantage to be gained.

A bad move from the Ruler and/or the General can destory one's reputation within his organization and outsider. It can also destory an organization quickly.

The Rule that I learned many, many years ago is "Never make a major decision under emotional duress. Esp., a decision that can affect lives of people around you.

Keep a cool head. Do nothing out of emotion or else it will have a greater chance of failure. Emotional people make overly rash decisions.

"Cool, Calm and Collective" are the keys to self control.
No control => Over emotional => Bad decisions

Sun Tzu said, "The ruler may not move his army out of anger; the general may not do battle out of wrath."

The general also has the wisdom to not let the rulers emotions control the maneuvering of the forces. Emotionalism is almost always a disadvantage that can be exploited by the opposition.

Few things cloud one's judgement more than rancor. Prudence is lost in the midst of conflict when we behave from a base of emotion. If our enemy is fighting with a cool head we are doomed in most cases.

It makes sence on paper, but my experience has been that when I am angry with no reasonable avenues of solution. I just can't see staright and make good decisions or even ask for reasonable help.

Part of the problem with having many losses is that one enters a type of quagmire where it seems the more you struggle the deeper you get. A type of trap.

At this point I would have to say that some traps are much more complex and effective than others...depending of course on the type of prey it is designed to catch.

And of course getting angry never really seemed to help me too much either.

"The ruler may not move his army out of anger; the general may not do battle out of wrath."

Should an enemy do battle out of anger, their true resolve and means of fighting are eluded and they become vulnerable.
"For those of choleric temper, try to agitate them."
Those choleric warriors such as Lu Bu or Zhang Fei, often had their enemies attempt to destroy them with their temper. By either taunting, turning their men against them, or just refusing to fight. Those like Zhang Fei and Lu Bu had a strong taste for battle, and anger often makes one impatient.
Even those whose temper is a usually well retained one, such as the case with Liu Bei, anger can elude them and make them think only of vengeance. They think not of the advantage to themselves, but what will most hurt the enemy. In this case, even if one knows their enemy, they don't know themselves. If they know their enemy and not themselves, they shall win one and not the next. Don't base your logic on feelings; the latter is a very powerful ally; terrible foe.

The general should not do battle out of anger, but should rouse his soldiers to anger before battle commences while keeping a cool head himself.

You can confuse the whole world, but not yourself.
